Guitar Tree Music Studio

Andy Ferris (Founder)

"Music is a unique journey for each of us, and an endless way to find fulfilment and enjoyment. I have played a lot of different styles over the last 30+ years, and I’ve been able to pick up many useful tools along the way. I have a passion for sharing these with you, and for finding the right ones for your own stage of development. My goal as a teacher is to provide you the skills and tools necessary to meet your own musical goals, and to deepen the enjoyment of your  musical journey.”

A life long learner with a passion for music, Andy has been playing and studying guitar for 30+ years, and teaching for much of that time. He completed his BA in Jazz Performance at Capilano University in Vancouver, Canada, where he had the opportunity to study with Canadian jazz musicians Bill Coon and Brad Turner, as well as perform with international artists Kenny Werner, Dee Daniels, and Kurt Elling. Since that time he has lived and worked as a teacher in several countries, including Canada, USA, Japan, India, UK, and Taiwan, and has also completed an MA in Applied Linguistics. Most recently he studied an additional MA in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas.

While his academic background is in jazz, Andy loves and teaches a variety of styles. He feels the guitar is a passport to many kinds of music. He is passionate about helping students develop the tools to find their own voice on the instrument, and his lessons are tailored to the interests and abilities of each learner. Andy’s approach is designed to motivate his students to make clear and consistent progress while also maintaining a fun and positive atmosphere. Finding and nurturing a passion for music and the guitar, and seeing that develop into a long term love is what he loves most about teaching.
